The project is being developed as the outreach and education portion of the developing GCOOS Integrated Water Quality Network and is being structured to accommodate data and information acquired by volunteer monitoring networks throughout the Gulf of Mexico region.
GCOOS currently has a cross-regional water quality collaboration with Florida Aquarium, Nature’s Academy (FL) and the Galveston Bay Foundation (TX).
Each organization collects water data based on their priorities and objectives. Common parameters are Temperature, Dissolved Oxygen, pH and Salinity
The number shows the number of monitoring entries. When you click the number, it will zoom-in
Drag a red-colored marker and Drop on a land. Popup window will show Latitude/Longitude and
geocoded address, and 1 week weather information.

The project is being developed as the outreach and education portion of the developing GCOOS Integrated Water Quality Network and is being structured to accommodate data and information acquired by volunteer monitoring networks throughout the Gulf of Mexico region. GCOOS has a cross-regional water quality collaboration with Nature’s Academy and the Galveston Bay Foundation (Texas).
These will be the first two organizations participating in this pilot project, allowing students in Florida and Texas to see and compare each other’s data on water quality, biodiversity and coastal cleanup efforts.
Nature’s Academy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit environmental education company focusing on educational field trips in Florida. Their mission is to enhance science literacy and foster environmental stewardship through inquiry-driven education programs.
Nature's Academy staff are experienced in teaching environmental conservation across a variety of disciplines, including ecology, marine science, botany, chemistry and physics. Education programs focus on science conservation and cater to school, family and group organizations. Participants are immersed in a variety of exciting activities, such as snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, guided nature walks and hands-on discovery at parks and science facilities throughout the state. Nature’s Academy gives back to the local community through initiatives, such as the Tools of Change Project, which reduces plastic use by replacing disposable bottled water with a reusable alternative.
Citizen Science data is collected by students participating in Nature's academy field trips as part of the educational programming and curricula. To learn more about Nature's Academy and the programs that involved data-collection, visit: http://www.naturesacademy.org/
